Effect of fish meal replacement by <i>Azolla</i> meal on growth performance, hemato‐biochemical and serum parameters in the diet of scale carp, <i>Cyprinus carpio</i> var. <i>communis</i>

A 12-week growth experiment was conducted to evaluate the suitability of Azolla cristata as a fish meal (FM) substitute in diets for Cyprinus carpio var. communis fingerlings. Six iso-nitrogenous and isocaloric (16.17 kJ/g GE) were formulated contain 42% crude protein each treatment had three replicates. The mean initial weight 3.4 ± 0.2 g. Graded levels A. 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50% fed triplicate groups, respectively. No significant (p > 0.05) differences performance fish-fed containing 10% control (0%) inclusion seen. However, further increase (AM) supplementation resulted gradual decline terms live gain, specific rate, feed conversion ratio, efficiency ratio. All hematological parameters linear declining trend proportion AM diet increased. Protein content found significantly < reduced higher AM. Serum biochemical also noted reduce with increasing AM, except glucose, cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate (AST). On basis results obtained present study, it is recommended that can be included practical C. fingerlings partial replacement fishmeal without affecting their growth, efficiency, quality intensive culture this species.
